Football-Free Zone!

Dear Reader, I am proud to announce that this issue of the magazine is a soccer-free zone. For weeks now, the reading public has been bombarded with all kinds of soccer news, so we here at MUNICH FOUND have assumed that, if you are still in the dark about something having to do with the World Cup, you can surely find out about it in the daily press. Indeed, there are so many other interesting things going on in and around Munich in July and August that we didn’t have any room left for “the round that has to go into the square,” as the German soccer legend Sepp Herberger once described the sport. Visit any number of events or sights in Regensburg, Straubing, Augsburg, Kaltenberg or Oberammergau to get to know our beautiful Bavaria a little bit better. Or plan a carless, stressfree trip on one of the boats operating on some of Bavaria’s most beautiful lakes. We’ve even added a few tips on where to disembark and enjoy a cool beer, a glass of wine or a little chilled schnapps—guilt-free, of course, because the S-Bahn will take you home safely whenever you want. For those who prefer to enjoy a spot of the good stuff in the comfort of their own home, we’ve included a few tips on wine shopping in Munich. And, readers looking for something new will always find great info in our “Address Book Secrets” section. I’d like to wish all our readers a wonderful summer. We’ll be back in September to report on the next big happening—the Oktoberfest. And, we’ll even tell you where Munich’s famous beer festival—actually held in September—got its misleading name! Sincerely, Angela Wilson
