Running Oberland and City

After lazy summer months filled with days on the Isar and nights in the beer garden, two local events will help you get a running start to a fitter fall.

On September 9, at 4 pm, Wolfratshausen will host the Oberland Halbmarathon. The course, which loops between Wolfratshausen and Geretsried, is 90 percent asphalt with no inclines—perfect for a PR. Register online until August 31 or follow instructions on the site for late registration.

You can avoid adding travel time to run your 42 kilometers at the Munich Marathon on October 8, at 10 am. A veritable city tour, the so-called “Sightseeing Route” winds through the Olympic Park, Schwabing, the English Garden, Bogenhausen, and beyond before it reaches a film-worthy finish back at the Olympic Stadium. A 10-km version begins at 10:45 am. For more information and online registration, visit the official website (also available in English).
