Matthew Pillsbury
After many exhibitions in the United States and Canada, American photographer Matthew Pillsbury recently opened his first solo show in Germany, at Galerie Negulesco (Gabelsbergerstrasse 19). The exhibition features a selection of photographs taken from his most compelling series: “Screen Lives” and “After Hours.” Images from the former were made with long exposure times on a large-format camera. In the eerie urban scenes, humans are wispy ephemera and electric light provides the only permanence. Pillsbury also explores the felt absence of life and the potency of material objects in the photographs of “After Hours,” which were taken within the halls of museums, outside regular opening hours. The exhibition is on view until January 13. <<<
