What's happening for Christmas in Munich

Though you may feel a bit melancholy if remaining in Munich for the holidays instead of heading home, the city has a lot to offer in the way of holiday cheer. The city’s numerous Christkindl markets offer gift ideas, Bavarian specialties and libations, all making for an unbeatable yuletide atmosphere. Munich’s largest market on Marienplatz will be the site of special events and activities. In addition to the renowned booths that sell everything from ornaments to clothing, choral music presentations, a crêche display, children’s playgroup and a Christmas post office will set the city center’s celebratory tone. On Advent Saturdays, as of 11:10, a Christmas tram, replete with discounted Glühwein and Lebkuchen, will make its way through the inner city every 40 minutes. The ride, which will offer the opportunity to disembark at various shops and markets, begins its journey from the Theatinerstrasse stop on the 19 tram line. No need to be uninformed and hankering for home — complete information regarding Christkindl markets, open to the public as of November 27, is available at the Munich Tourism Bureau Web site, www.muenchen-tourist.de. <<<
