Public places for rent

There are parties for which your living room or your garden will do just fine. But on other occasions you might be looking for something a little bigger, more unusual or more glamorous. Whether it’s a wedding or an anniversary celebration, Munich is full of public places you can rent for a day or an evening. The city, for example, leases the casino of the Kreisverwaltungsreferat (approx. DM 900) or the Alter Rathaussaal in the Old City Hall, complete with a separate entrance and lobby (DM 10,000). The Bavarian Castles and Lakes Administration grant rental on some of the most spectacular and glamorous locations in Munich, only after a very strict application process. These edifices include the Prinzregententheater or the state rooms of the Residenz. Here you will not only have to fork out a small fortune (an evening at the Prinzregententheater costs DM 25,000 – without utilities), but observe certain safety restrictions for the protection of the buildings, such as an absolute ban on smoking. The Deutsches Museum rents several of its premises. One choice, the hanger where a variety of rare airplanes are on display, is available to rent for DM 15,000 (a strict ban on smoking and dancing is in effect). The Hellabrunn zoo is a great place for party animals, where you can dine at the Monkey or the Jungle House (approx. DM 3,000). Both institutions publish brochures in which locations and prices are listed. <<<
