April 2002

All That Flap

Starting in April, Munich’s culture buffs will be given the opportunity to enjoy 21st-century entertainment in a 1920s environment. Odeon—Das Spiegelzelt (mirror tent), which was erected next to Kunstpark Ost, is an exact replica of an Art Nouveau tent that was once so popular in the roaring decade. Again, it was Wolfgang Nöth who proposed and realized this new, unusual venue. With a variety of culinary delights—the Odeon offers food á la carte—and a sophisticated cultural program, the tent will offer an atmosphere unique in Munich. It is Nöth’s intention to give new and already established artists from the cabaret, chanson and comedy scene their first forum, since the city lacked a suitable location until now. On April 6, a grand gala party will inaugurate the tent, followed by a tight schedule of wide-ranging shows. One of this month’s events will be the performance of Miss Amerika by the American comedian Gayle Tufts and her German companion Rainer Bielfeldt. From April 10 to 14 the couple will present an English-German night with hilarious stories and evergreen songs. For tickets, call (089) 54 81 81 81 or visit www.odeon-spiegelzelt.de.
