Munich's International Filmfest begins in June

Reel world The 17th annual Filmfest München (June 26-July 3) promises guests, participants and movie buffs eight days of ground-breaking films from near and far. Participating cinemas include: MaxX, Filmuseum, Münchener Freiheit, Sendlinger Tor, Cinema, Forum 2 in Olympiadorf, the BMW Museum cinema and Filmcasino am Odeonsplatz. The festival presents highlights from Cannes, as well as South American films presented under the category of Visiones Latinas; films of North America will be shown under the category of American Indies. Europe’s own will be featured in Nouveau Cinema Francais and Neue Deutsche Filme. The Children’s Film Festival featuring Jules Verne films will delight kids and adults alike. Featured artists include Roman Polanski, Marin Karmitz and Filipino director Marilou Diaz-Abaya. The silver screen awards aren’t limited to works of the imagination. More than 300 entries from 30 different countries vie for the 7th MediaNet award, which recognizes outstanding documentaries. The competing films will also be shown as part of the Filmfest München.
