Pop go the Classics

The Nokia Night of the Proms isn’t that night in high school where all the boys run out and try to find a tuxedo, but rather a celebration and merging of classical and pop music. One of the most-visited musical events in Europe, the idea was developed in 1984 by two Belgian students who thought that an evening with only classical music would not be entertaining enough, and decided to add pop classics to the program. Since it was launched in 1985 the event has seen a number of top acts grace the stage, including Meat Loaf, Simple Minds, Sting, Bryan Ferry, UB40 and Alan Parsons. This year the event will take place at the Olympiahalle from December 9 to 12, and will feature, among others, the Fine Fleur Choir, Joe Cocker, Roger Hodgson, Shaggy, John Miles & the Electric Band and DJ Bobo, all performing their greatest hits to the accompaniment of the Il Novecento Orchestra conducted by Robert Groslot.
