Villa Stuck Museum

Lovers of Art Nouveau should head to Munich’s Villa Stuck Museum this month. After 13 years of renovation work, the refurbished building—a work of art in itself—is finally being unveiled to the public. From March 18, the historical rooms of Franz von Stuck’s studio, complete with renovated furniture and sculptures, will be on show in all their former glory. And, while you’re there, catch up on the museum’s latest exhibition, “L’Art Nouveau: La Maison Bing,” which runs from March 17 until July 31. Hamburg-born Siegfried Bing achieved renown as a gallery owner and collector of Asian artworks in Paris, where he opened his first gallery in 1895, calling it “L’Art Nouveau,” from which the style takes its name. Now more than 400 objects from Bing’s collection are on show in Munich.
The museum is open Weds.–Sun. 11 am–6 pm. See www.villastuck.de for more details. <<<
