War pictures
If you look at Germany today, it’s hard to imagine the ruined state it was in 60 years ago, at the end of World War II. Fortunately, one American soldier, who had bought his first camera a year before he was sent to fight, had enough foresight to document the era. This month, the fascinating collection of pictures taken by Tony Vaccaro between 1945 and 1949 will go on display at the Amerika Haus, Karolinenplatz 3. The pictures convey the sense of desperation and hope that pervaded Germany as the country attempted to rebuild itself. On show until May 31, the exhibition is open Mon.–Fri.,
10 am–6 pm, and until 8 pm on
Weds. Admission
