Travelling Pictures
You may wonder what would possess a man to spend the best part of three years on the Trans-Siberian express, standing by an open window at temperatures of minus 35 degrees Celsius and taking a few snaps. For Gregor Schmid, it was all in the name of art. Now you can check out whether you think it was worth the effort, at an exhibition at Munich’s Galerie Jörg Heitsch (Reichenbachstrasse 14, Tel. 26 02 29 65) through the end of May. “Fahrende Bilder” (Traveling Pictures) is a study of the Siberian countryside, photographed at different speeds and different times of day. Apparently Schmid deliberately chose to exhibit pictures that are slightly blurred as they are a better representation of an “unmanipulated reality.” A heartening thought for all amateur photographers out there.
