Grape Expectations
There’s a cork-popping time to be had at the Olympic Stadium this month. Having bid goodbye to football, with Bayern Munich’s move to the Allianz Arena, stadium bosses had to come up with another way of attracting the crowds. The result is a four-day wine festival, which hopes to attract some 40,000 people. Between June 2 and 5, the stadium will be transformed into a wine experience park, thanks to some 20,000 vines that are being planted in the main grandstand. As well as tasting tents and wine-related entertainment, the event will also feature a Guinness record-breaking attempt to host the world’s biggest commentated wine-tasting. Organizers hope as many as 10,000 people will gather on June 3 for a simultaneous session, led by some of the world’s top sommeliers. Entry to the festival costs from € 10, which includes a tasting glass. For more information, see
