Grape Rocks
Wine and precious antique cameos. Sounds like an intriguing combination. And easier than you might think to come by—simply head to the latest exhibition at Munich’s Staatliche Münzsammlung (State Numismatic Collection). “Bacchus und seine Welt auf antiken Gemmen” (Bacchus and His World on Antique Cameos) features more than 100 ancient Greek cameos bearing images of vines, grapes, the art of viticulture and the god Bacchus and his followers. The exhibition also includes ancient Greek drinking vessels. It runs from June 10 to February 28, 2006, at the museum at Residenzstrasse 1 and is open Tues.–Sun., 10 am–5 pm. The exhibition is accompanied by a booklet in English, German and Greek, available in the museum shop for € 28. <<<
