September 2005
Off to Schranne!
Munich’s newest cultural address opens its doors this month. On September 5 the first visitors will enter the Schrannenhalle, near the Viktualienmarkt, where a whole host of entertainment awaits. As well as being able to buy traditional crafts, including leather goods, hats, soaps and hand-bound books, visitors can choose from a truly cosmopolitan selection of food, with stalls selling Asian, Bavarian, English, Indian and Italian cuisine. On the entertainment front, organizers describe the venue as providing “culture for everyone.” And, if the first month’s program is anything to go by, they look to be on track, with fashion shows, live music, book readings and club nights taking place both day and night. Some highlights for September include:
Sept. 7—11 am–1 pm: Introductory talk on the Schrannenhalle with Dr. Forchheimer,
8–10 pm: Tracht fashion show
Sept. 10—Music Day, concerts throughout the day
Sept. 15—11 am–1 pm: Good eating and cooking with Peter Lamy
4:30 pm–6 pm: Wine, with sommelier Norbert Spielmann
Sept. 16—5–7 pm: Jazz music
Sept. 19—7–9 pm: Swing band.
These events are in addition to the regulars, which include a family day every Sunday with organized amusements for children and a club night every Friday and Saturday. General information and more on forthcoming events can be obtained by contacting the Schrannenhalle at Tel. 518 18 18. Schrannenhalle, Viktualienmarkt 15,
