Spooktacular!

There are some ghoulish treats in store for Munich’s Halloween partygoers this year. For the the ultimate bash, certainly in terms of location, head to the Residenz, which is being transformed into a spooky backdrop for a wild night. The event, organized by Renaissance Clubbing in cooperation with the Ministry of Sound, features top DJs from around the world. The event is likely to attract crowds, so it’s probably worth going to the effort of dressing up, be it in Renaissance style or Halloween gear, for preferential and reduced admission. Check out www.renaissance-clubbing.de for details.

If you’re more into chillin’ than thrillin’, slip on down to Soul City for a laid-back Halloween bash (or at least it will be once the 200 liters of free punch, or Gruselbowle, has been supped!). Groove along to hits from the 1960s to the 1980s, from 10 pm.
For some alternative spooky sounds, check out Substanz’s Halloween Lil’ Devil Night. Doors open at 8 pm, DJs start at 9 pm. The German-English Association in Munich is also planning a bash—check out its Website, www.gea-muc.de, nearer the time for details.

For some bewitching food, fly along to Kleine Schmausefalle at Mariahilfplatz, which will be providing a Halloween buffet, free welcome drink and DJ session for € 10 per person. Or check out the fancy dress party at La Cicchetteria Bar in Haidhausen, where there’ll be a free buffet, punch, a DJ and a special Halloween cocktail on offer for € 4.50. Admission is free.

The more upmarket sorcerors and sorceresses among you might enjoy a Halloween gourmet music night at Nymphenburg Palace’s Palmenhaus. The enchanting sounds of Tartini’s “Teufelstrillersonate,” Beethoven’s “Das Geistertrio,” Schumann’s “Fantasiestücke” and Liszt’s “Mephistopolka & Irrlichter,” performed by a piano trio, will accompany diners through a Halloween menu of dishes such as beetroot carpaccio, pumpkin and ginger soup and other seasonal thrills. Tickets start at € 100 and include a lantern-lit walk through the palace gardens.

Speaking of gardens, the Nymphenburg Botanic Gardens are also picking up on the Halloween theme for their pumpkin special on Saturday, October 29, and Sunday, October 30. As well as a tour of the greenhouses, kids will be shown how to make pumpkin lanterns and how to use the insides to make pumkin soup and marmelade. Leave the little devils to it, from 1 pm to 4 pm. The workshops cost € 2 per child and can be booked by calling Tel. 13 86 13 10.

If you prefer to do things further in advance, the Schrannenhalle is also running a pumpkin lantern-making course on October 19 at 3 pm. See www.schrannenhalle.de for details.
