Here’s our pick of this month’s exhibitions that might be worth a look:
It may be known for its music, rather than its art, but Hotel Mariandl (Goethe-strasse 51) this month stages a unique exhibition, “Zimmer Frei,” featuring works by various artists. The pictures focus on the themes of strangers, new things and escaping—all quite appropriate for a hotel. Check it out from October 12-16.
For Bavarian addicts, now’s your last chance to see an exhibition on what makes Bavaria different from everywhere else in Germany. You can probably come up with a few things yourself, but, for the definitive list, visit the Stadtmuseum’s “Bayrisch gestimmt” before October 9.
Anyone who’s neglected their siblings recently could do worse than give them a call this month. The latest exhibition at the Haus der Kunst, “Künstlerbrüder,” features works by celebrated artists and their not-so-famous siblings. And, what’s more, those who turn up with their brother or sister will receive half-price entry, with twins being given free admission. For more information on the exhibition, which runs from October 19 to January 22, check out next month’s issue of MUNICH FOUND!
For something more classical, don’t miss a display of French masterpieces at the same venue. From October 7 to January 8, the Haus der Kunst is showing works from collections from around Germany, featuring the big names from the French art scene of the 17th and 18th centuries.
How about some sculpture with a difference? Based on the idea that rocks hold evidence of early human development millions of years ago, Munich artist Isolde Schaeffer has sculpted figures on to a series of stones, which are now on display in the Museum Reich der Kristalle until November 6.
