Where to watch the World Cup without tickets
Didn’t manage to get any of those elusive World Cup tickets? Not to worry. There are plenty of places in Munich showing the game, where the atmosphere is guaranteed to be buzzing. Here’s a selection:
- Most Munich beer gardens are showing all matches on giant outdoor screens. Check out our food article (page 13) for full details.
- All matches will be screened live on a giant screen on a stage in the Olympic Park lake, providing viewing opportunities for as many as 20,000 people. Admission is free.
- If the stadium atmosphere is what you’re after, head to the Südkurve arena near Donnersbergerbrücke. Although you’ll have to watch the action on a screen, you will at least get the feeling you’re in a real arena. See www.suedkurve-deutschland.de for details.
- At the Schrannenhalle, next to the Viktualienmarkt, not only can you watch the games on big screens, you also can stay right there for post-football clubbing.
The greatest common advantage to all these public viewing places is that they do not have to conform to
FIFA’s commercial contracts, which means you can enjoy the Bavarian beer and Munich specialities instead of Anheuser Busch and Coca Cola. For more ideas as to where to watch the games, don’t miss the MUNICH FOUND Visitors’ Guide, free
