July 2006
2006 Thurn and Taxis Palace Open-Air Concert Series
If you love Regensburg, or haven’t been yet, this is the time to head there—perhaps more than once! From July 14 to 25, the open-air 2006 Thurn und Taxis Schlossfestspiele will be underway. Featuring a riveting lineup of musical performances, the festival has something for everyone. Those old (or young) enough to remember the heyday of 1970s punk goddess and über-eccentric Nina Hagen will delight in attending Romeo und Julia on July 14 and 15, when her daughter, Cosma Shiva, will bring life, and death, to Juliet. Kids will enjoy a special performance on July 16: Ludwig Baumann’s adorable staging of Die Zauberflöte (The Magic Flute) will bring Mozart appreciation to the young set. That same evening, enjoy the incomparable operatic styling of Rolando Villazon, who will sing arias from the works of Verdi, Bizet and Puccini, to name a few. On July 17, audiences will be moved by the toe tapping, air beating and head bobbing of Yamato—the Drummers of Japan, an evening of “percussion, movement, athletics and music of the Far East.” The following night, July 18, those who missed “Circus Meets Classics” in Munich will have the opportunity to see this event in the Danube city. On July 21, the Regensburg palace will catch ABBAFEVER. For a full list of events, times and prices, visit
