The sound of summer 2006 in southern Germany is decidedly jazzy this year. In addition to the numerous jazz performances listed in MUNICH FOUND’s “What’s Up” and “News & Views” sections, the following two local jazz festivals will delight those who’d like to make a day trip of catching some live jive:
Jazz on the Danube will celebrate its 20th anniversary, from July 13 to 16, in Straubing. This year’s list of jazz artists from around the globe includes Colombian star singer Juanes, whose international smash hit “La Camisa Negra” is known to many, and Roy Ayers (July 14); Randy Crawford and Joe Sample Trio (July 15) and The Big Chris Barber Band (July 16), to name a few. Tickets, available at most ticket outlets in Germany or online at www.eventim.de, cost between € 25 and € 49, three-day passes € 99 to € 115. For more information, visit www.jazzanderdonau.de.
The 14th annual Augsburger Jazzsommer series will keep the local botanical garden hopping, from July 12 to August 11. Performers here will include New York piano player Monte Alexander and his Trio; trumpeter and flugelhorn player Ack van Rooyen; Argentinian bandoneon player Dino Saluzzi and cellist Anja Lechner; German tenor Heinz Sauer and many more.
