July 2006
Open-Air Movies
For the twelfth time, Westpark will play host to Munich’s summer alfresco hit,
“Kino, Mond und Sterne”: almost two months of film-viewing entertainment under the moon and stars. From July 6 to August 31, movies will be shown on a giant screen at the park’s Seebühne—
a natural stone amphitheater by a lake—rain or shine. Though at press time this year’s program had not yet been released, for the full list MUNICH FOUND readers can visit www.kino-mond-sterne.de. Tickets cost € 5, or € 8 for double features, and are available on-site the day of the screening or at a variety of ticket outlets, including the ZKV on Marienplatz, Hertie at Stachus and the Ticketbox at Ostbahnhof. Organizers say that, because seating is limited and the event is popular, it is best to purchase tickets in advance—that is, as long as you can accept whatever weather comes! Be sure to check the website for a short list of rules and weather tips.
Another extraordinary place in Munich to watch great films at is Schwabing’s Ungererbad swimming pool. From July 19 to August 13, the movie festival Kino am Pool will add splash to the summer. Simply bring along a cozy blanket and grab a spot on the lawn. Choose from an ample assortment of food and drink available on site before the show begins at 8:30 pm—weather permitting. Information is broadcast at 2 pm on the day of the show, on Energy 93,3. Tickets cost € 5. For more information and a full list of this year’s film lineup, visit www.kinoampool.de.
