DaVinci's Madonna at the Alte Pinakothek
Few paintings are significant enough to anchor an entire exhibition. Leonardo da Vinci’s Madonna with the Carnation, however, is not just the only da Vinci painting in Germany, but it is also the painter’s first autonomous work—a worthy centerpiece for an upcoming exhibition at the Alte Pinakothek. Opening on September 14 and running until December 4, the exhibition will be divided into two sections. The first will explore how the Madonna influenced other painters who worked alongside da Vinci at the Atelier of Andrea del Verrocchio during this period. The second will take another tack and consider how the piece represents advances in the technical aspects of painting. In sum, it will be a well-deserved moment in the spotlight for the “Munich Madonna.” For more information, visit
