The Pope Comes to Bavaria
“My heart beats Bavarian,” said Pope Benedict XVI, who spent many years living and working in Bavaria—often called “Terra Benedictina” (Benedictine Country) by Catholics. He will return to tour his Heimat this year, from September 9 to 14. One day after his arrival, His Holiness will celebrate a mass at the Riemer Park, a site near the Munich fairground, on September 10. A 260-kilogram “Benedict Bell” will call worshippers to the site, before being installed in Traunstein’s St. Michael Seminary. Tickets for the event are available at www.erzbistum-muenchen.de. The Holy Father will then move on to Altötting and Regensburg, where he will perform mass on the 12th, before ending in the Bishop's city of Freising.
