Porcelain in Dialogue
From October 26, to January 28, 2007, the floor of the rotunda at the Pinakothek der Moderne will be set for a dinner party for 1111, while the museum presents the porcelain exhibition, “Young-Jae Lee: 1111 Vessels.” Like the dinner guests they serve, each porcelain dish has a singular identity that interacts in “dialogue” with its neighbors. Though at first glance, the dishes appear to be quite similar, German-Korean artist Young-Jae Lee has created small variations in the color, shape and glaze of each. Shadow play and the viewer’s changing perspective create a dazzling kaleidoscopic effect, making this a display of modern art, not the museum’s Neue Sammlung design section.
