A Glance Into Indian Books
For centuries, the fairy tales and legends of India could only be found on the lips of its residents. But today, the nation’s publishing industry has just recently overcome the barrier posed by seventeen regional languages and begun converting the oral tradition to the written word. The quality and quantity of Indian books have exploded in recent years, and this year, India will be a guest country at the world-renowned Frankfurt Book Fair. In further recognition of the growing richness of Indian literature, the Internationale Jugendbibliothek in Schloss Blutenburg will display 100 Indian picture books until October 27. Though short in length, each is a rich reflection of the country’s complex history and cultural influences. Two of the exhibition’s curators will present “A Glance into the Publishing Landscape of India,” in English, on October 10. The lecture, free-of-charge, will begin in the library at 6:30 pm.
