Olafur Eliasson in the Underground
There are people who spend hours, and even days, in the Kunstbau of the Lenbachhaus, experiencing the optical and physical magic of Olafur Eliasson’s light installation. (See our cover.) The Danish-born Berlin transplant created the project especially for the Kunstbau in 2003. Now, thanks to the private funding, Munich residents can once more visit this impressive light project and re-experience its impact on the body and soul. While ephemeral works such as this artificial simulation of nature are often inappropriate for the static setting of a museum, Eliasson’s subterranean work of art remains relevant and impressive. And, though the artwork hasn’t changed in the past three years, our perception of it has evolved. You should not pass up this one-of-a-kind experience, in place until October 22.
