Ancient Images in Modern Art
The halls of the European Patent Office (Erhardtsr. 27) witness new creations daily. It is, therefore, somehow fitting that the institution’s cultural club will play host to a new exhibition, on display until October 27, featuring modern artwork and jewelry inspired by discoveries of ancient times. Amar Ahmad’s paintings are based on Sumerian characters, Margarethe Fritz-Hermann paints images of traditional Islamic patterns and Simon Stangalini crafts jewelry based on symbols used by civilizations of the Far East. Not only their subjects, but also their own nationalities — they are from Iraq, Austria and Italy, respectively — reflect the dynamic international ambience of the EPO. Their multicultural and multi-epochal creations are on view at the EPO Monday–Thursday, 9 am–5 pm and Friday, 9 am–4 pm.
