Thai Festival of Lights
The Loy Krathong festival is a highlight of the tourist season in Thailand: In thanks for each autumnal harvest, locals place lit candles inside banana leaf boats and transform the dark bays and rivers of the countryside into seas of dancing lights. Munich residents don’t need to book a plane ticket to enjoy the spectacle, however, as the Thai Art and Culture Group of Munich will present a Loy Krathong festival at Westpark (Westendstrasse) on October 21. At 10 am, the festivities, replete with Thai food, Singha beer and music, will begin with the singing of the Thai national hymn and the presentation of a royal greeting dance. At 11 am, Thai culinary specialties will be available and live music will keep the party going until 8 pm. Entry is free. For more information, call the Thai Art and Culture Group at 651 88 27
