In the wake of renovations that included the opening of Blue Spa, the Hotel Bayerischer Hof has been racking up international accolades: International magazine Global Finance named it "Best Business Hotel in Munich" for the second year in a row, and the Bertelsmann publishing house awarded the Hotel Bayerischer Hof Restaurant the "Unser Service 2007" award for outstanding achievements in hospitality. The hotel's most impressive praise, however, came in the October issue of the gourmet magazine, Der Feinschmecker, in which it was named "Hotel of the Year," "Best Grand Hotel" and "Best Hotel Bar." Though the hotel has been in the Volkhardt family for more than 100 years, current steward Innegrit Volkhardt sees its recent success as a reflection of the hotel's ability to evolve dynamically over time. Munich residents can experience the elegant surroundings and stellar cuisine of the Hotel Bayerischer Hof without spending the night. (Although you could run into a president or pop star if you do.) On Sundays, from 11 am to 3 pm, until May 13, 2007, the Hotel Bayerischer Hof Restaurant will be hosting a jazz brunch buffet, replete with live music by Annette Neuffer Quartett, Jazz Kids, Free Beer and Chicken and Ludwig Seuss Quartett (on rotation). The buffet's offerings are enough to display the full dexterity of this award-winning kitchen: A meal of spicy antipasti, Bavarian specialties, seasonal salads and sweets from the Hofkonditorei might fill you up for the rest of the day. Selected juices, coffee and tea are included in the price of € 34.50 per adult. Prices for children are determined by their height: Children under 100 cm must pay € 9.50, and those measuring in at 100-150 cm will cost the folks € 17 per kid. Bavaria is not just the agricultural heart of Germany: It's also home to a wide variety of animal life. For those who'd like to sample a taste of deer or rabbit without having to kill the animal or face its remains at the butcher, the Ratskeller on Marienplatz is offering game dishes to "warm the hunter's heart," throughout the month of November. Entrees include such hearty fare as venison roulade, wild hog medallions and rabbit leg in juniper sauce. A wide variety of wild mushroom specialties will give even vegetarians the taste of a forest trek. All of the food prepared at the Ratskeller is organic--a reference to the Red-Green politicians who work upstairs. The excellent wine selection and comfortable traditional ambience will ensure that you'll enjoy your meal from first sip to leaving your seat.
Contrary to popular belief, Bacchus--the Greek and Roman god of wine--was not just a representative of the beverage's intoxicating power, but also its more refined social and cultural benefits. In the same way, Forum Vini is far from an Oktoberfest beer tent. This annual wine fair will be held, from November 10 to 12, in Halls 1 and 2 of the MOC in Riem. More than 300 employees of wineries, wine shops and sommelier academies will be on hand to represent the wide diversity of wine's cultural and sensual offerings. Tickets will cost € 15, and include tastings at the stands, educational lectures and a convention program, as well as a decadent chocolate symposium--Xokolade--which will in conjunction with the fair. Inspired visitors will be able to purchase bottles directly from the exhibitors to host their own bacchanals at home. The fair will be open Friday, 3 pm to 10 pm; Saturday, 1 pm to 10 pm; and Sunday, 1 pm to 9 pm.
