Zwillinge-Twins
The Museum Reich der Kristalle is nestled in the shadow of the Pinakotheken, both literally and figuratively. Although this museum—the public part of the State Minerological Collection—is one of the Germany’s largest mineral collections, few Munich residents make it a regular destination. The museum hopes to change that with the presentation of an exhibit exploring minerology from an artist’s perspective. Called “Zwillinge (Twins)," the exhibit explores the concept of twin crystals in the context of twins of other sorts. Symmetrical crystal growths are displayed alongside earrings by jeweler Doris Rieder Hoffman, large-format photographs of identical twins by Stefan Diller, and paintings by Steffen Müller-Wöhrs, in which he painted with both hands simultaneously. The overall effect is a creative consideration of the nature of simultaneity, balance, and organic growth. The exhibition is on display until April 15. The museum is located at Theresienstrasse 41 and is open Tuesday through Saturday, 1 pm to 5 pm, and Sundays 10 am to 5 pm.
