Jewish Museum Opens

Almost 80 years after planning began, Munich’s Jewish Museum will open its doors on March 22, on St. Jakobs Platz. The original collection of items moved from provisional spaces on Maximilianstrasse and Reichenbachstrasse in the late 20th century. It has been expanded and now finds a home in the 14.5-million-Euro building by architects Wandel Hoefer Lorch. The 900 square meters of exhibition space will host temporary exhibitions related to Jewish history and culture. More importantly, however, the museum is meant to be a place of communication. Each of the three floors will contain a study area to encourage collaborative research, and a bookstore and café in the foyer will play host to impromptu interactions.
