Munich Violin Days
Though never a center for violin production like Mittenwald or Cremona, Munich has long fostered a respectable tradition for instrument building. The Museum of Musical Instruments in the Stadtmuseum will introduce the city to the modern practitioners of this artistry from May 5 to 20, during “Munich Violin Days.” Almost 30 bow and string instrument makers from Munich and its environs will present more than 100 violins, celli, contrabasses, bows, and violas—all of which visitors can play under supervision. For those who’d rather leave the plucking to the pros, the museum will host a series of musical performances in conjunction with the exhibition. Concerts will take place on May 13 and 20 at 11 am (free), and on May 11, 16, and 18 at 7:30 pm (€ 7.50). See www.muenchner-geigentage.de for a list of the performers.
