Sweat in the City
For most Munich residents, trips to Marienplatz and its surroundings are a hectic fight against the tourist hordes, best to be avoided. On June 24, take the rare opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk or jog in the atmospheric streets of the city center during SportScheck’s 29th annual city run. With 18,000 runners expected, it may not be less crowded than a weekday afternoon. Free gifts from sponsors, however, and tunes provided by local radio stations make the whole experience feel more like a block party than bottleneck. A half marathon will begin at 8 am on Marienplatz. The 5k walking and nordic walking course begins at 8:15 am, and the 10k race does not begin until 11 am. Would-be runners may register for € 25 from June 1 to 23 in the SportScheck store on Sendlingerstrasse.
