Happy Birthday, Valentin
“Today is the good old days of tomorrow,” said Karl Valentin, the cabarettist and comedian who’s become a sort of patron for Munich. It’s been almost a century since the good old days of Valentin’s heyday, and the city will honor his legacy with several events on the occasion of his 125th birthday this June. On June 3, Haidhausen will host a street festival in the area around Valentin’s birth house, Zeppelinstrasse 41. A series of readings and performances will begin at 4 pm, and culminate in a huge fireworks show at the night’s end. The next day, another party will begin on Viktualienmarkt at 11:01 am. Performers from the Valentin Karlstadt theater, Valentin’s descendants, and other surprise guests will be in attendance. Partiers will be able to enjoy snacks and beer for just € 0.99. Proceeds will go to the Valentin-Karlstadt Musäum. Those looking to give a gift to the memory of Valentin may wish to answer the museum’s recent call for donations toward renovations of the current exhibition rooms: Bayerische Hypo-Vereinsbank, BLZ 700 202 70, Account 275 40 70, Verwendungszweck 922 741 151 820 016.
