Scientific Cultures

Drawn to Germany by Siemens, BMW, Gore, and others, many expats living in Munich have a particular interest in science and technology. This year’s conference of the Bavarian American Academy appeals to that demographic, with a series of lectures on “Scientific Cultures, Technological Challenges: A Transatlantic Perspective.” From June 14 to 16, international scholars from Stanford, the University of Munich, the Deutsches Museum and elsewhere will present interdisciplinary talks exploring the culture of science and technology in North America. Planned topics include “Risk Society and the Literary Imagination,” “The Challenges of Race and Poverty to Scientific Cultures,” and “The Evolution of State R&D Investment Funds in the United States.” All lectures are free and open to the public, but email info@amerika-akademie.de to register to attend. See www.amerika-akademie.de for a full schedule of events.
