Holocaust remembrance
Munich has always remembered Holocaust victims, but it is important to keep conceiving new ways to do so. On May 23,
a new commemoration site opened in Maxvorstadt. Called
“Augustenstrasse: Giving a Name and Place to the Commemoration,” the installation recalls the fate of Jews who lived in 16 apartment buildings in that street. Large-format photographs of apartment buildings are accompanied by short biographies describing the fate of their inhabitants, and displayed at Augustenstrasse 15 to 17. Decades after the residents of Augustenstrasse simply vanished, their neighbors are honoring their continued presence.
