Magdalenenfest
Though Munich’s calendar is filled with Fests, none have roots that go back as far as the Magdalenenfest, held in the Hirschgarten in Nymphenburg. The first incarnation of this traditional fair and market took place in 1728, alongside the dedication of the Hermitage of Mary Magdalen there. It will be held this year from July 14 to 22, 10 am to 10 pm, daily. More than 50 stands will sell a mishmash of wares: baskets, spices, handmade jewelry, Tracht, and discount socks. Chocolate-covered fruit, hot noodles, or mixed nuts will provide the sustenance necessary to pick through all of the offers. On family day, July 18, food stands and ride operators
will offer lower prices for children.
