Wan Kao Pansa
The madness of Fasching is still months away, but Buddhists kick off their own fasting season with a cultural festival this July. During Wan Kao Pansa, Buddhists donate huge candles, flowers, and decorations to temples, where monks are about to begin three months of seclusion (known as Vassa). Parades, dancing, and musical performances fill Thai cities. On July 7 and 8, Munich’s Thai community will host a Wan Khao Pansa festival at the Nepalese pagoda in Westpark. Dancers and musicians will perform traditional Thai works, while carvers and other artisans display their handicrafts for visitors. Thai specialties and imported Thai beer will give spice to the celebrations, entry to which will be free.
