Rowing World Cup

The prognosis for this summer is world cup fever once again, as more than 1,200 of the world’s best rowers come to Munich for the Rowing World Cup. The city will defend its reputation as a world-class host as the German 8s defend the title that they won at last year’s races in Eton. More than 20 other boat classes will compete to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Peking. The regatta strip in Oberschleissheim is a gorgeous venue for sports fans and athletes alike, and promises to be even more breathtaking during the opening ceremonies on August 25 at 6 pm. A parade of 70 nations backed by Bavarian folk music, an illuminated boat parade, and a firework finale will inaugurate the event, which runs until September 3. Don’t miss the boat: Tickets for the races are on sale for € 8–30 through www.munich2007.de. (The opening ceremony will have free admission.)
