Hotel Biss Plans
The nonprofit that launched BISS magazine is expanding its project scope and plans to use € 3 million in donations to purchase a former women’s prison in Munich and turn it into a four-star hotel. The hotel, scheduled to open by Oktoberfest 2010, continues the BISS self-help concept for supporting people citywide facing social difficulties. The project is designed to provide jobs and internships for at least 40 disadvantaged city residents. Once opened, the 66-room hotel will need to cover costs solely through earnings. An intense fundraising campaign, to generate the money needed to purchase the historic building, is being held this year and next. It is a rare win-win situation: Workers, Munich residents and visitors will all benefit from the project. See
