Samba Skill

Whether you love the Bossa Nova hits of the 1950s and 1960s or the latest hot samba rhythms, Born to Samba at the Deutsches Theater from October 16 to November 4 delivers Brazilian fever to Munich’s doorstep. From the creator of The Bar at Buena Vista, comes a show that features dancers and musicians who have worked with such Brazilian superstars as Gilberto Gil and Sergio Mendes. Performances are held Tuesday through Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 2:30 and 7 pm. Tickets are € 19 to € 54. www.deutsches-theater.de

Tango Sundays

One night a week, the Schlachthof concert, cabaret and theater is transformed into a hotbed of passion and rhythm for “Tango Argentino.” But this is not a sit-and-watch event: Fabián and Cristina Lugo are professional dancers and instructors, who will lure you out onto the dance floor. The evening’s program includes: 6 to 7:15 pm, beginner dance class; 6:30 to 7:15 pm, advanced dance class; 7:15 to 10:30 pm, Tango Ball. A class and the ball cost € 10; the ball alone costs € 7. International Salsa Festival Heats up the City

From November 1 to 4, the eyes of salsa aficionados will be on Munich, where the hottest dance groups and best instructors from around the globe will converge for Salsa Festival 2007. Forty workshops will be offered—from beginner to professional level—as well as performances by dancers from Spain, Cuba, the US, France, Belgium and Germany. Nightly parties at the Kultfabrik (running until 5 am) promise to be a highlight, as do classes by world-renowned US salsa instructor “Edie the Salsa Freak.” A special beginner workshop will be held from 1 to 5 pm on Thursday, November 1.
