High-Quality Tap Water for the Next Generation

Recently, some of you may have seen the Mayor dressed as some kind of cosmonaut, pedaling in a huge tube. It wasn’t a warm-up for Fasching. This tube—2.2 meters high and 25 m underground—is part of a centennial project by city utilities to supply Munich with high-quality fresh water. It replaces the 120-year-old pipes from the Mangfalltal, where the water is tapped from carefully controlled ground. To keep the water free of pesticides and nitrates, the city supports sustainable and organic farming in this region. This is one of the main reasons that Munich tap water is one Europe’s best. Except in times of heavy rainfall or thunderstorms, it’s free from chlorine and other chemical additives. So, drink it! You’ll save money, reduce the number of plastic bottles crowding landfills and avoid the strain of carting water to your home. You can even have it sparkling if you prefer: Just purchase a soda-maker with carbon cartridges, available in every supermarket. <<<
