December 2007

Gospel, Hornpipes and the King

You love Lebkuchen; the Christkindlmarkt is your place to be; a mug of Glühwein never leaves your hand all winter; you know all the German Christmas songs by heart; you are even accustomed to thinking about what the Christkind, not Santa Claus, might bring you this year. Still seeking something more to get your inner bells ringing? Six December concerts could be the star on top of your Christmas season:
On December 1, Munich’s finest gospel singer Albert C. Humphrey comes to the Amerika Haus with a Christmas concert at 8 pm. Tickets for € 19 are available at all VVK outlets.
The Irish Harp Orchestra (pictured) presents Christmas songs, plus jigs, reels and hornpipes at the Prinzregententheater on December 13 at 8 pm. Tickets cost € 29-42.
On December 15, New Orleans gospel singer Joan Orleans comes to the Circus Krone with an American Christmas program at 8 pm. Ticket prices range from € 31.60 to 45.10.
Watch three generations celebrate a “Swinging Christmas” on December 18 at 8 pm. Max Greger times three—father, son and grandson— will perform the most popular English Christmas songs from “Jingle Bells” to “Let it snow” at Prinzregententheater. On the same stage on December 22 at 3 pm, the acclaimed American group The Jackson Singers will bedazzle their audience with a night of Christmas gospel. Tickets for both concerts are on sale for € 29-46.
Finally, when the Christkind, or Santa Claus, or both have done their charitable duty, RIO — “the best Elvis since Elvis” — presents Christmas and gospel songs by the King at Gasteig’s Carl-Orff-Saal on December 26, at 8 pm. Tickets cost € 20-30 and can be purchased at the Gasteig’s box-office or at VVK outlets. <<<
