Philip Guston

From December 13 to March 3 the Pinakothek der Moderne will present an exhibition of the works of Philip Guston (1912-1980). Guston, an exceptional representative of American post-war art, is well known for his expressive and absurd paintings. The Pinakothek’s exhibition will focus on a neglected field of his art: drawing. Approximately one hundred works on paper illustrate that drawing, for Guston, was not just a means to draft his paintings. Ranging from the 1940s to the year of his death, his drawings give evidence of an experimental use of the art that leads to a deeper comprehension of his complete works. Guston’s works on paper will be displayed in the graphic art section. <<<
