Munich Exhibitions
On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts, the
Pinakothek der Moderne presents the work of architects who worked and studied at the academy over the years. Sketches, plans, photos and design models demonstrate the specific style of the academy’s associated architects. In the 19th century, Carl von Fischer, architect of Munich’s Nationaltheater, and Friedrich von Gärtner, whose international influence can be compared to Friedrich von Schinkel, were among the academy’s teachers. In contemporary times, the academy has been influenced by Sep Ruf, Paolo Nestler and Otto Steidle, who have immortalized themselves with significant buildings throughout Munich. The exhibition opens on February 15 in the architecture section of the Pinakothek. Anyone interested in both the architecture and development of Munich may want to seize this last chance to visit an exhibition at the
Münchner Stadtmuseum. “München wie geplant” traces the city’s 850-year history. Numerous paintings and graphics illustrate the formation of the cityscape, changes and innovation throughout the centuries. Highlights include two wooden models of the city center: one carved by Jakob Sandtner in 1570 alongside a modern version from 2000. “München wie geplant” ends after four years on February 17. <<<
