February 2008
International Spring Book Week
Thanks to this year’s focus on Canada at
Munich’s International Spring Book Week, English readings will be held throughout the city from February 27 through March 7. Numerous authors of all genres—from mystery stories, travel literature, and non-fiction, to recently published novels—will present an interesting cross-section of Canada’s diverse contemporary literature. Alongside writers of Franco-Canadian and Anglo-Canadian descent, authors of today’s migrant generation will voice their experiences and views. Supplementing those literary highlights, further events featuring Canadian culture are on the schedule. The “Book of Longing” night at Muffathalle on March 1 will introduce Leonard Cohen’s work as a writer and composer. On March 6 at Gasteig’s Carl-Orff-Saal, acclaimed music reviewer Joachim Kaiser and his guests will pay tribute to one of Canada’s greatest musicians—
eccentric pianist Glenn Gould. From February 20 on, there also will be a free exhibition at the Kunstarkaden (Sparkassenstr. 3) displaying books, videos, and photos on anything connected with the country of maple leaves. For a detailed list of events, see Munich Found’s What’s Up section or visit
