Kodo & Kong Fu
n 1981, an ensemble of musicians settled on the beautiful island of Sado to study taiko, a form of Japanese drumming. Their studies, however, did not only preserve a traditional art form, but fostered a dynamic percussion renaissance. Today, some 60 artists live and work at the village Kodo on Sado, and frequently travel the world to share their drumming skills with an international audience. On March 1 and 2,
KODO will stop at the Gasteig Philharmonic to present the extraordinary fusion of humans with their instruments. Tickets are available at all VVK outlets and cost € 28–58. The Gasteig Philharmonic also will host yet another breath-taking spectacle of Asian culture later this month. On March 15, the Masters of Shaolin Kung Fu will break rocks with their bare hands and bore through plate glass with needles. Along with those amazing feats, the masters of Shaolin will give an introduction to Confucian teachings. Tickets for this night cost € 25–40 and can be purchased at all VVK outlets.
