Thurn und Taxis Treasures
Fifty-five snuffboxes from the second half of the 18th century are the center of the exhibition “Galante Preziosen” (Gallant Jewelry) at the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum. The small boxes from France, Germany, Switzerland, England and Russia once belonged to the art collection of the Thurn und Taxis dynasty, and are impressive examples of exquisite craftsmanship. Often made of exotic materials such as lapis lazuli, ivory or rock crystal, the snuffboxes document the extraordinary culture of rococo and early classicism. The exhibition can be viewed through March 30 and also displays a selection of other Thurn und Taxis treas-
ures, such as pocket watches, evening gowns and contemporary portraits. <<<
