Allora & Calzadilla
Works by American artist Jennifer Allora and Cuban Guillermo Calzadilla are not confined to a specific medium. So far, the duo has presented art performances, created works for specific locations and dabbled in film and sculpture. They even have incorporated works by others in their art. Lately, the creative pair has focused on combining noise or music with sculptural elements and performances. For the Haus der Kunst, Allora & Calzadilla will explore the influence of Turkish music on classical music of the Western hemisphere. Using the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony—which includes a passage of “Turkish Music”—the duo will create the installation “Stop, Repair, Prepare—Variations on ‘Ode to Joy’ for a Primed Piano.” This art project also has a hint of the political, as the “Ode to Joy” is the anthem of the European Union. The installation will be on display from June 13 through September 14. <<<
