Outdoor Swimming Pools

Eight public outdoor pools in Munich draw water bugs like moths to a flame this summer season. A special novelty is the completely chlorine-free ecological pool Maria Einsiedel. The Dantebad has been enlarged with a new nudist area, and the children’s section has been renovated with new toys for tiny bathers. On warm days the Michaeli-Freibad (at left), the Freibad West and the Ungererbad also welcome bathers from 9 am to 6 pm, and stay open until 8 pm on exceptionally hot days. If the weather forecast is up in the air, only Schyrenbad, Prinzregentenbad and Bad Georgenschwaige open their doors. All-day tickets for adults cost € 3.20; children have to pay € 2.50. All pool addresses are listed in the “Active Sports” section of What’s Up. For recommendations on lakes in the Munich area, read the Know-How article on page 12. <<<
