July 2008
Munich Artists' House
In 1900, the
Münchner Künstlerhaus (Munich Artists’ House) was opened as a meeting venue for artists and other members of Munich society. As proof that this founding principle is more alive than ever, the Künstlerhaus will open its doors for several performances and activities during one week in July. The series of events will start on July 18, when the artistic couple “Die Smarties” will create a three-dimensional net out of many kilometers of colorful wool. Visitors are invited to participate in this art performance. The following two days, the popular lithography workshop once again calls for would-be printers. Grind stones, mix colors and use the workshop’s printing machines to experience all steps of this special printing method. Children can join in the inky fun on the afternoon of July 20. Each day’s programming begins at 11 am, and all are free. (Though donations are happily accepted.) The week caps off on July 25 through 27, when the Berlin puppet theater ensemble “Figuren-Zirkel” will present Oedipus Rex by Stravinsky and Cocteau with larger-than-life puppets, a shadow play and Cubist masks. The performances start at 7 pm. Tickets cost € 18. To reserve seats or to get more information on all activities, call
